I enjoy paper as much as pixels ... I was fortunate enough to design books, magazine, newspaper, brochures and comic strips.

Book Design

Translating idea to design:
My client and Author, Sonu Bhargava wanted to create 'something/mostly a book' to help a child understand 'Life' skill-sets, in a very fundamental and simple manner. The intent is to make kids understand meaning of different words by documenting parents experience and develop a method to approach life.

My task was to create an interesting medium to covey the clients idea. A set of 7 ideas was given after User and Market research.
Finally we created a ‘book’. Illustrations were created which are self-explanatory and fun. These Illustrations not only teach the children life values, but also trigger the thought process for the parents to introduce past experiences and new words to their kids.

To add to the impact, the book also has famous Indian personalities who have written their life experiences for certain pages. Mr. Mangalam Birla, Dr. Abdul Kalam, and many more have personally appreciated the illustrations and the book design.

Comic Strip

Newspaper named - Sakal - is one of India's highest selling newspapers, printed in local Indian language-Marathi. They have a comic strip inculcating good manners + teaching ideal mode of conduct to kids in their Sunday Kids edition.

A look of hand drawn comic strip was specially designed as per the requirement of Sakal, by YellOh.

Kids Newspaper

IL&FS were coming up with a by-monthly Childrens newspaper. The Brand had to be built as well as the look-and-fell and experience designed to suit the audience. YellOh designed the grid and format, giving the overall ‘Look-and-Feel’ for a children newspaper. We also supplied name options for the newspaper.

Design:
Circular partitions made so that it adds a fun element and breaks from the regular rigid newspaper look. Instead of illustrations, photographs will be used, to make it easy for the artist and also gives the illusion of a grown up and serious newspaper to a child [our user study made us understand the likes and dislikes on an average] making them believe in the news more easily.

Magazine Design

An NGO named - "we the children" - that provides free education for the poor, wanted to come up with a Children magazine they can sell for generating some income, which they could use towards the less fortunate.

"we the children" had a very rich and raw logo that encouraged fun, togetherness, childhood, play & created a mark, in my opinion. I extended this fun+raw logo into the magazine design by using painted hands to create simple but intricate, fun & new,
‘Visual language’ for the magazine that is
-definitely not in the market, something that no one has done before[our market research showed clichéd illustration magazines for kids]
-reflects fun, enthusiasm, excitement, zesty [reflects the child in all of us]
-break of new and fresh design that can be inspiring too endorsing the child to think creative [reflected a lot about the client -young/new, with
new ideas and ‘fun and learn’ etc.]
